Devkund Waterfall Trek from Pune detailed itinerary

Devkund waterfall trek distance is three kilometers one way. It will take two hours to trek this distance from the Devkund Waterfall Parking near the Patnus village.

Devkund waterfall trek route difficulty depends on the amount of rainfall Tamhini ghat and Plus valley receive. The Devkund trek starts from the parking area; you will be greeted at the trailhead by villagers who demand a trekking fee and guide compulsory. If you reach the trailhead post at 2 pm, you will not be allowed to trek.

Pro Tip: Please wear covered trekking shoes for this trek that offer a good grip.

The Bhira waterfall trek route is simple; you will walk past rice fields, dhabas, a few huts of fishermen and farmers who live inside the forest. You will get the first glimpse of the Bhira Dam on your left, the Khajina waterfall visible in the distance, and You can also spot the Andharban Trek trail. The Bhira Dam water levels increase and decrease every day as the water is released and filled again depending on rains. It is also part of Tata Power and used as a reservoir after electricity generation.

The hiking routes have markers in colored ribbons tied on trees guiding you to the waterfall. You will reach the first significant waterfall crossing during the peak rainy season. You will find villagers who work as guides helping you cross the river and place a rope for support. You will cross many open grasslands; the tall mountains on your right are Tamhini Ghat. As you head towards the main river crossing, the Devkund Bhira waterfall route will get smaller. You will have walked ahead of the Dam now, and a large gushing stream will be on your left. Soon you will reach the most dangerous river crossing.

Pro Tip: Buying insurance for this trek is ideal as there are chances of injury. Adventure trek insurance will help cover your medical expense and rescue expenses.

The is a wooden bridge where you can cross the river crossing. We will use this bridge and safely cross the river. You will find many tourists traveling under the bridge using local people's help to avoid this for safety reasons. From here, the route will be uphill for 45 minutes till the waterfall.

The Jungle in this section will be Lush green, and you can find the river on your right-hand side here. After walking past the Jungle section, we will see a clearing to reach the waterfall. Many waterfalls flow on the right and left sides of the main Devkund waterfall on a rainy day. We will stick to the boulder section on the left side as this section never gets flooded and is safer to reach the waterfall on a rainy day. Devkund waterfall trek safety of the participant, trek leaders, locals, co-trekkers is essential to us. We request your cooperation with the trek leader.

Finally, after crossing the boulder section, we will get the first glimpse of the Devkund Waterfall. The best views of the waterfall are from the left side at the highest point in the boulders section. We go down to the ropes for more up-close views of the magnificent waterfall.

Pro tip: Keep all your gadgets inside a waterproof or dry bag as the spray from the waterfall and rains will drench all your belongings on this trek. Avoid wearing jewelry and expensive watches on this trek. We suggest using a waterproof action camera on this trek.

River crossing Devkund

Crossing streams or visiting the mandir behind the waterfall will be challenging during the rainy season due to the amount of water that flows through the waterfall opening. Kindly stick with the group and avoid wandering away from the group due to large crowds; the high decibels of the waterfall communication is very limited. We will spend a good time clicking images, group photos, videos and will leave just in time to reach the homestay for lunch.

Pro Tip: Keep drinking water on this trek; even though the climate will be pleasant, you will get dehydrated. Carry two to three liters of water for this trek in reusable water bottles.

There will be crowds along the Devkund trek route; be patient while hiking. Don't try to overtake in the boulders section or while descending the slopes, crossing the bridge, or crossing the river streams. Please wait for your turn; we will have ample time for the return trek.

Once we reach the wooden bridge, we will again use the same bridge to cross the river stream. Most accidents happen while crossing the river stream under the bridge. Now the river stream and Bhira Dam will be on our right-hand side. It usually rains in the evening in this forest with a thunderstorm. On our return trek, the sun will be higher in the sky and will be hotter keep drinking water and hydrating yourself.

Pro Tip: Carry a sun cap, insect repellent, cover up for this trek as the Jungle is filled with insects and thorns.

It will take two to three hours to complete the return trek to our Bus. Once we reach the trailhead or the Devkund Waterfall Starting point, we will begin moving towards our homestay to change and lunch. After a quick change and sumptuous lunch, we will start our journey for Pune. We will stop for evening tea on our way back. Enjoy the views of Tamhini Ghat Waterfalls on our return journey.

Pro tip: Carry extra slippers, dry clothes to change into after the trek. You can keep your excess luggage inside the Bus. Keep your backpack light on the Devkund tour. For the best trek experience, wearing good trekking shoes is required.
