About Devkund Waterfall Trek Pune
Tucked away near Bhira Dam in Maharashtra, the Devkund Waterfall is one of the most spectacular monsoon waterfall treks in the Sahyadris — a hidden paradise where three streams merge into a single plunge pool of turquoise water. It lies about 115 km from Pune (around 4 hours), 175 km from Mumbai (around 6 hours), and 90 km from Lonavala, making it a perfect one-day trek from either city.
The base village is Bhira (Patnus village) in the Raigad district. From Mumbai or Pune, you take the Mumbai–Pune Expressway and follow the route via Imagica and Pali to reach the base. The trek itself is about 6 km one way and takes 3 to 4 hours, winding through lush jungle, rocky outcrops, and a few perennial waterfalls — a joyous, gently adventurous walk that's well suited to first-time trekkers.
Devkund is the origin of the Kundalika River, fed by the Tamhini ghat, and during the monsoon the falls thunder down in full force — keep a waterproof cover handy for your phone and camera. Once you reach the pool you can dip your tired feet in the cool turquoise water, enjoy the natural fish spa, and soak in the calm. The plunge pool subtly changes colour through the day, creating a picture-perfect, almost magical scene.
Known to locals as the "Bathing Pond of Gods," Devkund carries deep mythological significance and is considered sacred by the villagers. Surrounded by dense forest and silence, it offers a genuine fairy-tale escape from city life — best experienced during the monsoon (June to September) and the post-monsoon winter months, when the water flow is strong and the jungle is at its greenest.

Devkund Waterfall Trek — Frequently Asked Questions
How far is Devkund Waterfall from Pune?
Devkund Waterfall is about 115 km from Pune, roughly a 4-hour drive via the Tamhini Ghat route to Patnus (Bhira) village. From the trailhead, the waterfall is about 3 km one way (around 2 hours of hiking).
Is Devkund Waterfall open now?
Access changes frequently. The waterfall is regularly closed by the forest authorities during heavy monsoon rain to control crowds and for safety, and we get asked about its status every weekend. Because it changes week to week, please WhatsApp us before booking and we'll confirm the current status for your chosen date.
What is the best time to visit Devkund Waterfall?
The best time is June to February. During the monsoon (June to September) the waterfall is in full, fierce flow; post-monsoon and through winter the flow eases and the surrounding jungle turns golden and serene. The falls largely dry up in the hot summer months.
How high is Devkund Waterfall, and how deep is the pool?
The main waterfall drops roughly 250 feet (see note below), and the plunge pool is about 60 feet deep at its deepest point — so swimming is only advised in the shallow edges and under the trek leader's guidance.
How difficult is the Devkund Waterfall trek?
The trek is easy to moderate, suitable for both beginners and experienced trekkers. The trail runs through jungle with multiple river crossings, so average fitness and shoes with good grip are recommended. Expect about 2 hours of hiking each way.
How long is the Devkund trek?
The hike is about 3 km one way (around 2 hours each way). Including the drive, breakfast, time at the falls, and lunch, the full day runs to roughly 8 hours. Our group size is typically 20 to 40 trekkers.
Do you offer rappelling at Devkund Waterfall?
Yes — we run Devkund waterfall rappelling once the monsoon ends. There are two rappels: the first is about 130 feet and the second about 250 feet down the waterfall face. WhatsApp us for rappelling dates and packages.
Is camping allowed at Devkund Waterfall?
Camping is not allowed at the waterfall itself, which is considered sacred by locals. However, riverside camping is available along the Kundalika River near Patnus village, from where you can start the morning hike to the falls.
Is the Devkund trek safe?
Yes, with sensible precautions. The route has markers, and local guides are stationed at the river crossings and at the main waterfall pool. Always follow the instructions of your trek leader and the local safety staff, especially during the monsoon.
Can I shoot a vlog or photos at Devkund?
Absolutely — vloggers, photographers, and content creators are welcome. The jungle trail, river crossings, and turquoise pool offer plenty of material. You can also see our trek video in the gallery above.
Do you offer customised Devkund trek packages?
Yes. We arrange private, corporate, and family group packages for Devkund. WhatsApp us with your group size and dates and we'll tailor a package for you.
Monsoon Trekking Tips
What should I pack for a monsoon trek in Maharashtra?
Carry a waterproof backpack or rain cover, a rainproof jacket, quick-dry clothing, an extra pair of socks, trekking shoes with good grip, a waterproof pouch for your phone, insect repellent, a first-aid kit, energy snacks, and enough water. Silica gel packs and ziplock bags help keep electronics dry.
Are leeches a problem on Devkund and other monsoon treks?
Yes, leeches are common on forested monsoon trails. Wear long socks, tuck your trousers in, and apply insect repellent on your legs. A small salt or lime solution helps detach any that latch on — they're harmless, just unpleasant.
Is monsoon trekking safe in Maharashtra?
Monsoon trekking is safe when you take precautions: stick to well-maintained trails, follow experienced guides, check the weather, and never attempt dangerous river crossings on your own. Be prepared for slippery terrain and changing conditions.
