Sahyadris being the mother of the Western Ghats have another beautiful Ghat blossoming within its bosom. Malshej Ghat is a mountain passage in the Thane - Ahmednagar road range. It is huddled inside the majestic rugged hills of the Western Ghats. Malsej is a habitat to a huge number of diverse species of verdant flora and fauna especially the avian inhabitants. It is particularly famous for its considerate population of flamingoes that swoop down here in the months of July, August, and September. Other avian species include peacocks, quails, rails, crakes, and cuckoos.
