Overview

Spiti Valley Tour Package from Delhi | Manali to Spiti Valley 6N/7D

Spiti Valley — the "Middle Land" — is a high-altitude cold desert tucked deep in the Trans-Himalayas of Himachal Pradesh, sitting at the crossroads of India and Tibet. Ancient monasteries, fossil-rich villages, sheer mountain faces, and roads that touch the sky make this one of India's most sought-after offbeat destinations. This Spiti Valley tour package from Delhi covers the classic Manali to Spiti Valley circuit — a 6-night, 7-day fixed departure designed for small groups who want the best of Spiti at a comfortable, acclimatised pace.

The route begins with an overnight Volvo from Delhi or Chandigarh to Manali, giving you Day 2 to settle in before the high-altitude drive begins. Day 3 is the centrepiece: Manali to Kaza via the Atal Tunnel (the world's longest high-altitude road tunnel) and Kunzum Pass at 4,551m — where the landscape flips dramatically from pine forest to barren cold desert in the space of a few kilometres.

Over the next two days out of Kaza, you explore Key Monastery perched on its hilltop, the fossil village of Langza with its giant Buddha, Komic — Asia's highest motorable village — and Hikkim's world-famous post office. Day 5 traces the route to Chandratal Lake via the Chicham Bridge, Asia's highest suspension bridge, ending with a night camped beside the Moon Lake at 4,300m. Day 6 brings you back over Kunzum Pass to Manali for the overnight return — reaching Delhi or Chandigarh by morning on Day 7.

Why this Spiti Valley trip?

Most Spiti Valley packages rush the acclimatisation or skip Chandratal entirely. This itinerary builds in a full day in Manali before the ascent, overnights in Kaza across two nights, and a dedicated Chandratal camping night — covering all the landmarks without the altitude headache. Difficulty is easy to moderate; no prior trekking experience required.

Itinerary
Day 1

Departure from Delhi / Chandigarh | Overnight Drive to Manali

Akshardham Delhi Metro Station
+
  • Your Spiti Valley tour begins at the boarding point in Delhi or Chandigarh, where you meet your trip leader for a quick briefing before boarding an AC Volvo bus to Manali.
  • The overnight journey covers roughly 500 km along NH-3, climbing steadily north through the Shivalik foothills and into the Kullu Valley.
  • Sleep through the plains and wake up to the Beas River and the first Himalayan ridgelines outside your window.

Stay: Overnight Volvo bus | Meals: None

Day 2

Arrive Manali | Acclimatise & Explore the Hill Town

Manali
+
  • Arrive in Manali (2,050m / 6,726 ft) by morning, check in, and take it slow — this acclimatisation day is important before ascending to Spiti's high-altitude cold desert.
  • After breakfast and rest, explore the town at your own pace. Visit the 16th-century Hadimba Devi Temple set within a deodar forest, walk the apple orchards and cafes of Old Manali, or browse the gear shops on Mall Road.
  • Light activity, good hydration, and an early dinner are strongly recommended. The mountains start tomorrow.

Stay: Hotel in Manali | Meals: Dinner

Day 3

Manali to Kaza via Atal Tunnel & Kunzum Pass (4,551m)

Kaza
+
  • The most dramatic drive of the trip — roughly 200km over 7 to 8 hours. After an early breakfast, head to the south portal of the Atal Tunnel at 3,060m. At 9.2 km, this is the world's longest high-altitude road tunnel, cutting under the Rohtang Pass and emerging at Sissu in the Lahaul Valley.
  • The landscape change is immediate — pine forests vanish and the stark Chandra River gorge takes over. Continue through Gramphu and Batal, then begin the climb to Kunzum Pass (4,551 meters / 14,931 feet), the sacred gateway to Spiti, marked with prayer flags, butter lamps, and a Devi temple. Stop, acclimatise, and take it in.
  • The descent drops into Losar, the first village of the Spiti Valley, before the road follows the Spiti River south to Kaza (3,800 meters / 12,467 feet), the district headquarters and the heart of the valley. Dinner and rest.

Stay: Hotel Kaza | Meals: Breakfast & Dinner

Day 4

Key Monastery, Komic, Hikkim & Langza | Spiti's High Villages

Kaza
+
  • A full day out of Kaza covering Spiti's most iconic landmarks — plan for an early start. First stop is Ki Monastery (Key Gompa), an 11th-century Tibetan Buddhist monastery at 4,166m perched on a rocky hilltop above the Spiti River, home to over 300 monks.
  • The view from the top across the valley is one of the defining images of Spiti. Continue to Komic (4,587m / 15,027 ft), one of Asia's highest motorable villages, where the ancient Tangyud Monastery sits surrounded by empty plateau.
  • Drive to Hikkim (4,440m / 14,567 ft) — location of the world's highest post office. Send a postcard and collect the postmark as proof of altitude. The final stop is Langza (4,400m / 14,500 ft), a quiet fossil village where 500-million-year-old marine fossils erode out of the hillside — evidence that this desert was once a seabed.
  • The large Buddha statue here, silhouetted against the peaks, is one of Spiti's most photographed spots. Return to Kaza for dinner.

Stay: Hotel in Kaza | Meals: Breakfast & Dinner

Day 5

Kaza to Chandratal Lake via Chicham Bridge, Losar & Kunzum Pass

Chandratal Lake
+
  • Depart Kaza after breakfast for the 90km drive to Chandratal Lake (4,300m / 14,100 ft). The first major stop is Chicham Bridge — the highest motorable suspension bridge in Asia, hanging 150m above the Spiti River gorge and connecting the remote village of Chicham to the main valley road.
  • Continue through Losar and climb back up to Kunzum Pass before the final 14km descent to Chandratal. The crescent-shaped glacial lake — named "Moon Lake" for its shape — sits in an open bowl surrounded by high ridges and shifts from jade green to deep cobalt as the light changes through the afternoon.
  • Short walks around the lake perimeter are possible from camp. After sunset at this altitude, the sky is unobstructed — expect a full Milky Way on clear nights.

Stay: Tents near Chandratal Lake | Meals: Breakfast & Dinner

Day 6

Chandratal to Manali | Overnight Return to Delhi / Chandigarh

+
  • Set an alarm for dawn — the golden hour at Chandratal, when the still lake reflects the surrounding snowfields, is worth losing sleep for.
  • After a lakeside breakfast, pack up camp and begin the return drive over Kunzum Pass and down through Lahaul to Manali (approx. 4 to 5 hours).
  • Arrive by early afternoon — time for a hot meal, a shower, and last-minute shopping on Mall Road. Board the overnight Volvo from Manali to Delhi or Chandigarh in the evening.

Stay: Overnight Volvo bus | Meals: Breakfast

Day 7

FAQS
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS How do I book this Spiti Valley tour package? You can book directly on this page by clicking Book Now and paying the advance amount of Rs. 5,000 per person to confirm your seat. Prefer to talk first? WhatsApp us on +91 88280 04949 or email highfive@treksandtrails.org. We also offer customised Spiti Valley itineraries for private groups — just reach out. What fitness level is required for this Spiti Valley trip? This trip is rated easy to moderate. You will not be trekking long distances — most of the journey is by road. However, you will be spending multiple days above 3,800m in a high-altitude cold desert environment. Basic cardiovascular fitness, good hydration habits, and the ability to walk 3 to 5km on uneven terrain are sufficient. Avoid alcohol for the first 48 hours at altitude. Is acclimatisation necessary for Spiti Valley? Yes — and this itinerary builds it in. Day 2 is a dedicated acclimatisation day in Manali (2,050m) before the ascent to Kaza (3,800m). Skipping this day significantly increases the risk of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). Symptoms of AMS include headache, nausea, dizziness, and fatigue. If you experience severe symptoms at any point, inform your trip captain immediately. Consult your doctor about Diamox before travel if you have a history of altitude sensitivity. What is the camping experience like at Chandratal Lake? Chandratal Lake (4,300m) camping is one of the highlights of this trip. You will stay in Swiss tents in a government-designated camping zone near the lake — open fires, private tents, and a sky full of stars on clear nights. Nights here drop close to 0°C even in summer, so your sleeping bag and down jacket are essential. Toilet facilities are basic. The short walk to the lake edge at sunrise is worth every bit of the cold. What is the minimum group size for this trip? This fixed departure runs with a minimum of 4 confirmed participants. If the group falls below 4, we will either adjust pricing proportionally and run the trip, or offer a full refund (minus any applicable bank transaction charges). You will be notified well in advance if a departure is at risk of cancellation. How are rooms allocated? Rooms are allocated on a same-gender basis, which works well for solo travellers and friends. Couples are accommodated together. Guesthouse stays are on twin or triple sharing. Homestay rooms may accommodate 2 to 4 guests depending on room size — this is standard in Spiti and part of the authentic experience. Who else will be on this trip? Our Spiti Valley group departures typically have participants between 20 and 40 years of age — a mix of solo travellers, friend groups, and couples. We maintain a balanced male-to-female ratio and welcome all kinds of travellers. Solo travellers are very much at home on our trips. What should I know about staying in a homestay in Spiti? One night of this trip may be in a local homestay in Kaza, where you share space with a Spitian family. Rooms are simple, meals are home-cooked local cuisine, and the experience offers a genuine look at life at 3,800m. Hot running water for bathing is not available — this is standard across most homestays in Spiti due to water scarcity at high altitude. Hot water for drinking and washing hands will be available. What are dry toilets and will I encounter them? Dry toilets (composting toilets with no flush water) are common across Spiti Valley — a practical solution to water scarcity at high altitude. You may find these at homestays and some guesthouses. If you have difficulty with squat-style dry toilets, let us know at booking — a stool can be arranged at a small additional charge. Is Spiti Valley safe for solo travellers and women? Yes. Spiti is one of the safest regions in India for solo travel. Our trips maintain a healthy gender ratio within the group and female trek guides are assigned where available. Solo travellers — male or female — consistently rate Spiti group departures as one of their best travel experiences.
