Belum Caves

 

Belum caves in Andhra Pradesh, India are spread over more than 3 Km and the second largest cave system in India after Krem Liat Prah caves in Meghalaya. The caves are totally underground and the deepest point, the PaatalGanga, reaches about 150 ft below the surface. It is believed that the ancient Chitravati River used to flow underground and that led to the formation of this wonder. The beauty of Belum caves is comparable to the world-famous Grand Canyon cave system in the USA. The complete tour of the caves can be covered in about 2 hours. Belum caves are 50 Km away from Yaganti and just over 300 Km from Hyderabad. 

 

Gandikota

 

Gandikota is a small village in Kadapa district in Andhra Pradesh, India. The place is renowned for the scenic Gandikota Canyon around the Pennar river. There are a multitude of local attractions in Gandikota.

 

  • Gandikota Fort

This glorious fort holds a significant amount of history in its strong walls. The entrance to this fort is a sight to behold.

 

  • Jama Masjid And Charminar

A myriad of minarets quietly tells you the ancient history and culture of this place. The Jama Masjid and Chaar Minar are located inside the grand Gandikota fort. 

 

  • Madhavaraya Temple

The sacred Lord Vishnu temple located inside the Gandikota fort complex is a major tourist attraction. It offers absolute tranquility to its devotees.  

 

  • Ranganatha Swamy Temple

The ruined temple has undergone the test of time. The remains of the original grand complex still stand tall in sheer grace.

 

  • The Granary

The Gandikota fort used to house hundreds of people in ancient times. The people needed to be well fed especially during enemy attacks. There is a huge granary in the fort complex which a must-visit.

 

  • The Royal Water Tank

The fort also houses a royal water tank. When you sit here, you travel back in time and your imagination takes you back in history. All the grand civilizations have dwelled around the sources of water and the presence of the royal water tank in Gandikota fort clearly shows how important it would have been. 

 

  • Jail 

Yes, there is also a mysterious jail here. There are even secret tunnels and passages taking you from one part of the fort to another. 

 

  • Village

The sparsely populated village in the Gandikota gives a nostalgic feeling. The rustic life, the simple way of living, the calmness, etc. are no less than a treasure in today’s fast-paced modern-day life.

 

  • Mylavaram Dam And Pennar River View

The Mylavaram Dam is an irrigation project that even hosts barrages for transport of goods. The Pennar River renders a stunning view of the blue water running up to the horizon. 

 

  • Sri Bugga Ramalingeswara Swamy Temple

A popular Lord Shiva shrine in Anantpur district of Andhra Pradesh! The temple lies on the bank of the sacred Pennar River. This 16th-century temple was built during the Vijayanagara empire rule and allures the tourists from its rich glory even today. 

 

Gandikota promises a nostalgic journey into history. The numerous attractions give an opportunity to feel the lives of the kings and queens that breathed here. About 60 Km from here there are popular Belum caves which are another natural marvel. A trip to both these places is a must while planning a trip to this part of the world.
