A waterfall is where a river or a stream flows over a vertical drop in the landscape, creating a downpour of water. A Reverse Waterfall refers to a phenomenon where water flows uphill instead of cascading downward, which is physically impossible in nature. The Reverse waterfall happens due to strong winds pushed upwards by the mountain wall and the calm flow of the waterfall. Creating a beautiful natural phenomenon known as the reverse waterfall.

Reverse waterfall in India

Naneghat Reverse Waterfall Trek is a natural phenomenon in Naneghat, Maharashtra, locally known as "Reverse Waterfall." The waterfall flows backward in Naneghat during the monsoon season when the strong winds blow the waterfall's mist back up the cliff, giving the impression that the water is flowing upward.

This spectacle is not a true reverse waterfall, as the water still rushes downward, but the wind direction and the angle of the waterfall create the illusion of the water moving upward.

The Naneghat Reverse Waterfall Trek is a famous traveler magnet favored among outdoors enthusiasts, particularly during the monsoon season. It is found in the Malshej Ghats, around 150 km from Mumbai, and can be reached by a panoramic trek. The area surrounding the Naneghat Reverse waterfall is also home to historical places, including ancient caves, Jivdhan Fort, and ancient inscriptions inside the caves below the Naneghat, which add to the attraction's cultural importance.

Lohagad Fort Reverse Waterfall: A historic hill fort in the Sahyadri mountain range of Maharashtra located near Lonavala, not particularly known for having a waterfall. However, during the monsoon season, several seasonal waterfalls form on the slopes of the Lohagad Fort due to the heavy rainfall, making the fort look even more picturesque. You can experience the reverse waterfall here at certain points as the wind pushes the mild flow of the waterfall, creating the reverse waterfall.

Ghatghar Reverse waterfall: A scenic waterfall in the Samrad village of Ahmednagar district in Maharashtra. The Ghatghar Kada waterfall is situated amidst lush greenery and is surrounded by the Ratangad Fort, offering visitors a breathtaking view of the surrounding landscapes.

Ghatghar waterfall is formed by the river, which cascades down, creating a mesmerizing sight for visitors. The waterfall is at its best during the monsoon season when the river fully flows and the surrounding landscapes turn green with vegetation.

To reach the waterfall, visitors need to undertake a trek of about 1.5 km through the dense forest, which adds to the adventure and excitement of the trip. The trek is moderately challenging, and visitors must be careful while walking on slippery rocks and steep slopes.

Overall, Ghatghar waterfall is a must-visit destination for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts who want to explore the natural beauty of Maharashtra.

Kalu Reverse Waterfall Trek is a beautiful waterfall near the village of Khireshwar in Pune district, Maharashtra. Many waterfalls are surrounded by overgrown woodlands, making it a popular goal for outdoors enthusiasts and adventure seekers.

The best time to embark on the Kalu Waterfall trek is during the rainy season, between June and September when the waterfall fully flows and the surrounding landscapes turn lush green. Visitors need to be careful while trekking, as the trail can be slippery and rocky in some places.
