Introduction


Korlai Fort

This is one of the most beautiful forts in the Alibaug region. The Korlai fort is located at the distance of 5 km from Revdanda, 12 kilometres from Kashid beach, and 22 kilometres from Alibaug.

It is surrounded by the sea on three sides. Being not a very tall fort, it stands at a height of 275 m. The beach near the fort is its famous attraction. On one hand of the fort is pristine blue ocean and on the eastern and is a creek named Kundalika. The location creates mesmerizing scenic beauty. The fort is located at the mouth of this creek.

Korlai Fort is an example of ancient Portuguese architecture. The fort was an outpost to guard the entrance to the river. A small road will help you take you to the top of the fort. There is a lighthouse located on the fort and after a small climb from behind the lighthouse, you can reach the fort. The fort is in a disastrous state currently but the panoramic view from the lighthouse makes an excellent picturesque scene. The rocky beach at Korlai is an excellent spot for a picnic where you can spend time away from the city life hustle and bustle.

Korlai Fort is also known as Morro or the Castle Curlew. It was a strategic construction with the purpose to defend Portuguese rule from Bassein to Korlai.

There is huge and tall fortification surrounding the fort stretched in length of 2828 feet and is spread width-wise - 8 feet. The lighthouse is located on the southern gate of the fort. It is a fully automated lighthouse that was built in 1955 A.D.

Tourists have to trek 2 kilometres from the Korlai village through the grassland to reach the Korlai fort. 

Revdanda Fort

At the distance of 5 km from Korlai is located Ravdanda fort that is an ancient Portuguese fort. It is located at Revdanda in Raigad district of Maharashtra. This fort is at the mouth of the Kundalika River.

Another name for Ravdanda fort is Ravadanda Aagarkot. The fort was built by Portuguese captain Soj in 1558 CE.

The fort has a four-storey tower and a couple of cannons within its walls. Revdanda has historical value in India, being the first place in India where Afanasy Nikitin, the first Russian traveller landed.

High tide increases the scenic beauty around the fort manifold as the palm trees along the rampant are touched by the waves. You can reach this fort with 15 minutes’ walk from Revdanda village.

Revdanda beach is an isolated beach located near the fort. Here you will find black color soil which makes the venue unique.

Kashid Beach

Kashid beach is located at a distance of 32 km from Alibaug. This beautiful beach is on the shore of the Arabian Sea at Kashid. This is one of the most popular beaches in Maharashtra that makes a favourite getaway from Mumbai and Pune.

This beach lies between two hillocks. It is loaded with clear water, white sand, and casuarina groves.

The white sand here stretches for 3 kilometres along the beach that makes it enticing in the Konkan region. If you love water sports, you can enjoy it here as the waves rise as high as 6 feet, almost throughout the year. The beach is not apt for swimming however it makes a perfect water sports destination where you can enjoy water scooters, parasailing, and Banana boat rides.

For the street style snacking, you have a lot of options. Enjoy snacks, cold drinks, and coconut water when you are out on your relaxing spree.
