Top Ten Reason to Visit Kerala

The Aranmula Boat Race

Race takes place at Aranmula, India near a temple dedicated to Lord Krishna and Arjuna. Thousands of people gather on the banks of the river Pampa to watch the snake boat races. Nearly 30 snake boats or "chundan vallams" participate in the festival. The oarsmen sing traditional boat songs and wear white dhotis and turbans. The golden lace at the head of the boat, the flag and the ornamental umbrella at the center make it a show of pageantry too.

Each snake boat belongs to a village along the banks of the river Pampa. Every year the boats are oiled mainly with fish oil, coconut shell, and carbon, mixed with eggs to keep the wood strong and the boat slippery in the water. The village carpenter carries out annual repairs and people take pride in their boat, which is named after and represents their village.

Lohagad Fort Trek

The score is 3. This is my (our actually) 3rd trek with Treks and Trails India trekking group Mumbai. The addiction continues with some night treks planned in December. Rekha Adodra accompanied me to this one and it was an adventurous trek and a funny one too. For start I forgot to reserve tickets in train. So we traveled unreserved standing in general class all the way up to Lonavala. The coach was jam packed nothing less than local train. That was 2 hours of journey standing without moving after just 3 hours of sleep a night earlier and just before the climb up of 2800 ft trek.

Bhaje Caves

I couldn’t dare to disclose what was coming up to Rekha :) Next we missed our connecting train to Malvali station having to take an auto with 6 other guys. Rekha sat in my lap on those bad roads fully pressing on my bladder :) Guess those rickshaw makers never heard of shock absorbers. Every pot hole was an attack.

Explore Outdoors Mumbai

For all those who want to explore a new place, to know what around the place where you live. Explore maybe to a know or unknown part of a remote area.

One would at times get company to explore, or maybe not. It’s the passion that dives you to a location. With easy internet access thanks to smart phone people are now aware and want to seek more. Check the road the less travelled. Hitch hike or backpack maybe for a day or few days.  One such article that I came across was about Kalawantin durg near Panvel Also listed as The 33 Most Beautiful Abandoned Places In The World is a must visit

Reduce Stress - a Relief to Relax

The energy and time spent while trekking is always an investment. One we trek it actually our in maintaining a good mental balance of our minds. Helping us stay positive. As I believe it helps us work out every muscle in our body. A few body muscles we may use occasionally. As we focus all our energy on trekking our body and mind starts releasing energy that was trapped in our minds. Thus been a great stress buster for all of us.
