Matheran - recommended by TreksandTrails

Matheran is perhaps the only hill station in India where there is complete ban on any type of motor vehicles. This has ensured that there is ensured the noise level decibel are at the minimum. Walking along the lush green pathway is a delight. This hill station is located near Mumbai and is a good trekking spot. Ever since Hugh Malet, the then collector of district Thane discovered Matheran in the year 1850, its popular weekend gateway from Mumbai city.

Getting to Matheran is a experience to wish to encounter very often. Right from the toy train journey at Neral station which inches slowly uphill through the dense forest passing to numerous monkeys on the way. Once you have reached on top you can explore the interiors of Matheran on a horseback. Trekkers chose to walk from Dasturi point. Its close to 3 hours.

An early kickoff is advisable for viewing and photographing the surrounding landscapes.

Kothaligad Brief History

Kothaligad is a small Fort approx 3100 feet high, situated to the east of Karjat in Shahapur Taluka. It is one of the famous treks in the Karjat area around Mumbai, because of its small height and comfortable climbing. It is also known as the Fort of Peth because of its vicinity to Peth village at its base and as Kothaligad because of the internally excavated stairs at the fort top. The locals say that this is not actually a fort but a sort of lighthouse from where the directions were given to know the advancements of the enemy.  Trek to Sandhan Valley

Trek to Sandhan Valley 4

TreksandTrails recommends you all Sandhan Valley - A sheer delight. Which is located in Bhandardhara region of Shyadari range. As the name suggests it’s a valley true to its name. A passionate trekker and avid walker, or a photographer everyone is welcome.  A series of Sandhan Valley photos seen on the internet or on blogs mentioned of this heaven on earth place is always insufficient. Sandhan Valley, also known as Valley of Shadows, is one of the greatest canyons in the splendid setting of Sahyadri (Western Ghats).

The water carved valley is 200 ft deep and about 1.5 long. Sandhan valley is located on the western side of the beautiful Bhandardara region, near Samrad village. The valley is surrounded with mighty forts such as Alang, Madan and Kulang (Known as AMK- rated as the toughest trek in Sahyadri) Ratangad, Ajoba & Kalsubai (5400ft. highest peak in Maharashtra) mountain ranges. At some plaices its width is less than 3 ft and at some places sun rays unable to reach the ground. That why the name: “Valley of Shadows.” The feeling to being at this place – spending a couple of days gives an awesome feeling. It’s a new high to me.

Best time to Trek Is now (December – March). Not recommended during monsoon. We start this FULL DECEND TREK one will see that we have to cross knee/waist deep water to continue the trek
