Its said the same trek with different people will give a completely different high – so true are these words. Honestly Sudhagad is one of my favourite trekking destinations for trekking around Mumbai. Ever since I was introduced to this fort – I keep coming back one more time. Maybe it’s the aura that Sudhagad as a fort create when I am in its vicinity or just the awesome location. Its still known. Earlier whenever I trekked to Sudhagad, it was my favourite hunting ground for overnight stay. A huge wada situated at the plateau can accommodate atleast 50 people is in good shape and form even today.
In the past we used to travel by train from Diva till Nagothane, then take the local ST bus till Thakurwadi and start climbing. The trail starts from the opposite local primary school frim inbetween the houses of the villagers. A good start and steady space will get you the summit plateau in 2 hours. keep walking on this huge plateau – its the size of a football field or even bigger. As you walk right across the plateau you see Tailbelia (technical climb). keep walking in that direction and and in about 5 minutes you shall reach the wada.
After a short breakfast break we started to explore the fort, a few places of interest on the fort are:
Temple behind the wada – includes a dry well which is closed
Temple on the hill – includes a hude stone kandil
Samadi of many repected person who had passed away
This time we travelled a little differently, We had hired a private vehicle. Drove early in the morning at 01:00 from Mumbai reaching at 04:30 am – after a slight delay as we missed a turn at the Y – fork for Pashsapur junction. As we waited for the sun to rise at Sudhagad one of the villagers made morning tea for us. And on reaching on top at the wada our Aajee was happy to welcome us and made tea for us. TreksandTrails donated a bonded form mat to Aajee. As she used to sleep on the floor of her hut built outside the wada. Usually not many people visit Sudhagad but for those who have will agree with me. The efforts put by Aajee in maintain the wada applying lime powder on the walls, and coat of cow dung year after year is commendable task done by her.
As it was a small group of friends trekking on a bank holiday day – a week day. We completed the treak at ease and returned back to base village to be servers lunch cooked by the villagers. I must say the food was simple yet awesome. The support the villagers offer to the trekking community is awesome. its working for small monetary benefits without any credits or awards. Helping trekkers reach the fort one more time yet again. We travelled back to Mumbai at darshan at one of the Ashtavinayak Ganpati temple in Pali reaching Mumbai at 19:00 – feeling blessed and satisfied.
