Kalsubai Shikhar Trek
We embarked on the trek to summit the Everest of Maharashtra, Kalsubai on 29th Sep 2012, I know I am I little late in writing this report.
As usual we had our faithful Tata winger booked and getting organized in getting home picks up arranged. We did stop for a coffee break at 04:00 am, thou it was not expected as most of were half way into our dreams. I had our short formal introduction, to reach the base village at 05:00 am. It was little early to start, hence we waited and had a good breakfast with tea and started trek at 06:15am
Slowing as we started to climb, we witnessed the sunrise a delight I must agreed to click pictures. A perfect backdrop for the huge wind mills on the mountain ridge. I am quite sure everyone will agreed it was really nice and pleasant to start in the morning and soon the sun started to beat on us. As most of the trek route is barren except for a few trees. With the limited knowledge it seemed that there were 3 ladders out up to make the climb more accessible. On climbing the 3rd ladder I felt constant on reaching the top… but there was this small hillock which I presumed is not a challenge after what we had already climbed. Arunima leading us was a delight – great energy I must say. As we climbed the hillock I was shocked there was still at least 20% yet to climb. Gathering my reaming drained out strength I pushed myself ahead one more time “summit fever” was high.
The eagerness of Zahida to ensure that the trek to Kalsubai is completed this time was notable. The best part being there were many wild flowers on our way and it made our trip enjoyable.
As Kalsubai is now a very prominent trek, the local villages have started to set up small refreshment shop on the route. One can get lime water refreshment in these shops. I hope it help improving the standard of the people.
On a way back Zahida formed allies with Ashitosh in picking plastic rubbish and clearing the tracks. I would say an approx 3.5 kgs was cleared. The message goes out to all trekking. Lets enjoy ourselves and leave no footprints. As more and more people become aware the less plastic we shall have on our mountains. It’s our heritage and we all need to look after it.
Since thanks to all the participants for making this a amazing trek. Special thanks to Jatin Shah and Divyakant Khatam, it was great to meet you guys: salutations to your spirit.
